At Mill Creek Animal Hospital, we get many great questions from clients who are wanting the best for their pets! Here are a few of the most commonly asked questions.
What are your hours?
Monday to Friday, we are open 9am-6pm. On Saturdays, we are open 9am-5:30pm. We are closed Sundays and holidays.
Do I require an appointment to bring my pet to Mill Creek Animal Hospital?
Yes. We do require an appointment to be booked. We will accommodate emergency walk-in appointments to the best of our ability.
I got a new puppy/kitten. When do they need their first set of vaccinations?
For puppies and kittens, their first set of vaccines should be at 8 weeks of age. After this, they will require 2 more boosters 4 weeks apart. At the last set of vaccines (at 16 weeks of age), they can receive their rabies vaccination as well.
At what age do you recommend spaying/neutering pets?
For most pets, we recommend spaying/neutering around 6 months of age. To be sure what is best for your pet, veterinarians will discuss spaying and neutering during the pet’s first vaccination appointments.
Why does my pet require an examination when getting vaccines?
An annual examination is standard with all vaccination appointments. This is to ensure that your pet is in good health and to catch potential issues before they become a bigger problem. A yearly check up with a veterinarian is recommended even if your pet is not due for vaccinations.
Why do you require 24 hours’ notice for prescription refills?
Legally, receptionists, registered veterinary technicians and veterinary medical assistants are not allowed to refill medications unless approved by a veterinarian. When a client requests a refill of medication for their pet, we must first confirm with the veterinarian that it is acceptable to refill the medication. Then, a registered veterinary technician needs to fill the medication. After that, another technician will double check the prescription/medication to ensure that the proper medication, strength and instructions have been issued. After the medication is ready, we will call the owner to let them know it is ready to be picked up.
My pet has become sick, but I cannot come during your office hours. What should I do?
There are various emergency clinics in Edmonton that are able to help you 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. These clinics run on a triage system – meaning that they will see the most critical cases first. These clinics include:
Guardian Veterinary Centre: 5620 99 St
VetEmerg: 12831 97 St NW
Do you do payment plans?
We do not do payment plans at this time. Other options to look into including various pet insurance plans, Tails of Help and PetCard.
