Congratulations on your new little bundle of kitten! Kittens are great fun, but they also require some things that help them have a long, healthy, and happy life as part of your family. One of the most important things to do when they are kittens is getting all of their kitten vaccinations done, so they are protected against those nasty viruses that are out there.

When do kittens get their first vaccines?

Our doctors at Mill Creek will give the first set of vaccines at 8 weeks of age.

How often do my kittens need vaccines?

Kittens will get 3 sets of vaccines. First at 8 weeks, then 12 weeks of age and then lastly, at 16 weeks of age. After that, they will come in annually for vaccines.

Does my kitten need only core vaccines?

The kinds of vaccines needed are determined by you and your cat’s lifestyle. When you come in to see the veterinarian for the exam, you would talk about the need for certain types of vaccines.

Are there any risks associated with vaccines?

Like anything put into the body, there are always associated risks. The most likely side effects that you will see in your animal after vaccines include lethargy, decreased appetite, and tender to touch at the injection site. More adverse effects include facial swelling, vomiting, and diarrhea. If your pet seems to be having any reaction after having vaccines, always consult a veterinarian.
