Surgery with the most benefits – including reducing your pet’s risk for certain health issues.
Spaying and neutering are important procedures that will bring your cat many benefits, throughout his or her life. Here at Mill Creek, we do an ovariohysterectomy (removal of the uterus and both ovaries), commonly called spaying and for males, it is a castration (removal of both testes), commonly called neutering.
Spaying is the term used when referring to the sterilization procedure of a female. This procedure involves putting an animal under general anesthetic and removing the ovaries and uterus so that the animal cannot reproduce. Neutering refers to the removal of testicles in a male.
At Mill Creek Animal Hospital, we typically spay and neuter at the age of six months and up.
