Monitoring the health of your pet is crucial, as they may not exhibit visible signs of illness.

Although doing a physical exam on your pet can help the doctor make a diagnosis, specific blood values can reveal more than the eye can see. Blood testing may be recommended for several reasons, whether that be pre-surgical, wellness screening, or for monitoring the effects of long term medication use. Blood tests can tell us things that a physical exam cannot. It helps us find out what is wrong when your pet isn’t feeling it’s best and it can help diagnose things before they become a problem.

Why does my cat need a blood screen?

It may be recommended for your cat to have blood work done for several reasons. The most common reasons include pre-surgical, to make a diagnosis if there are ongoing concerns, and to monitor medication use.

How long does it take to get blood test results?

Most routine screens take 24 hours before we get results, but some can take up to a week.

What precautions should I take before a blood test?

Most routine screens do not require special precautions, but if there are instructions such as fasting, you will be told so beforehand.

How often should blood tests be done?

It is case dependent on how often blood work needs to be done. For animals on specific medications, blood work may be recommended to be done every 6-12 months.

Do you also do urinalysis and biopsy?

We offer in-house urinalysis, as well as sending urine to the external laboratory we work with. We also offer biopsy services that are sent to diagnostic laboratories to be examined.
